AI News Anchor

A smaller step toward the bigger virtual world. Welcome to Revolution 4. The Revolution of AI!

The news from China. Over their,

A news anchor has joined a China news channel. And he turns out, the overnight sensation. But here a twist in a picture, What if I say that guy is not a human. Yes, you hear me right.

China Official State media Xinhua News Agency has added an artificial Intelligence anchor to its new team through the partnership with Chinese search Engine Sogou.  The anchors debuted during China’s annual World Internet Conference, which is pitched as the country’s very own Davos for technology and futurism, and provide a showcase for China’s future plans, whether for the internet or just technology of the future.

According to the news agency,  the AI-enabled virtual presenter can read a text as naturally as a professional news anchor. And he can work for 24*7*365. I mean beyond human capability. That’s t the power of AI.

An English version of the AI anchor, essentially a clone of a real anchor, opens with an introduction to the new news service feature.

“Hello everyone, I’m an English artificial intelligence anchor,” the anchor says in his first broadcast. “This is my very first day in Xinhua News Agency. My voice and appearance are modeled on Zhang Zhao, a real anchor with Xinhua.

“The development of the media industry calls for continuous innovation and deep integration with the international advanced technologies. I’ll work tirelessly to keep you informed as texts will be typed into my system uninterrupted. I look forward to bringing you the brand new news experiences.”

The Guardian reported that Chinese viewers, who had tuned in for the announcement, were greeted by a digitized version of a regular Xinhua news anchor named Qiu Hao. The anchor, dressed in a pin-striped suit with a tie, nods his head in emphasis, blinking and raising his eyebrows slightly.

The AI technology was created by Xinhua and Chinese search engine Sogou. The digital anchors themselves were developed through machine learning and taught to simulate the vocalizations, facial movements, and gestures of real-life broadcasters, so as to present an “a lifelike image instead of a cold robot,” according to Xinhua.

So what the Basic Concept Work behind theses Virtual News anchors.

The technology is a bit similar to the Deep Fakes. An AI Creation which synthesizes facial feature to generate realistic video.
